TEHRAN (IQNA) – Messengers of God, when facing different groups of people who had doubts about their mission, did extraordinary things called miracles.

Splitting the moon

Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) had miracles that was special and no other messenger of God had done before.

A miracle is an extraordinary thing that divine prophets did to prove they had been sent by God and other were unable to do. These miracles were performed with the help and permission of God and that is why other people were not able to do them.

When Muhammad (PBUH), the last messenger of God, disclosed his prophetic mission, many people did not believe him, but they started to believe him after listening to his words and seeing his miracles.

The first and main miracle of the Prophet (PBUH) is the Holy Quran. There have been different reasons mentions as to why the Quran is the biggest miracle of the Holy Prophet (PBUH).

One reason is that the Quran’s language and rhetoric is special and remarkable in such a way that no one has so far been able to bring a verse like the verses of the Quran.

In order to prove that it is a miracle, the Holy Book has even challenged all people to bring a verse like those in the Quran: “Let them produce a discourse like it if they are true in their claim.” (Verse 34 of Surah At-Tur)

The Quran, in addition to recounting the stories of past peoples and prophets, gives news about the future or offers insights that only centuries later were understood or proven true as a result of scientific discoveries and advancement of knowledge. For example, the Quran says about the development of fetus: “Then We created of the drop, a clot (of congealed blood) and We created the clot into bitesize tissue, then We created the bitesize tissue into bones, then We clothed the bones with flesh, and then produced it another creation. Blessed is Allah, the Best of creators!” (Verse 14 of Surah Al-Muminoon)

Another aspect of the miracle of the Quran is the fact that no one and no group over the centuries has been able to distort the Quran or bring any changes to it.

This is what God has emphasized in Verse 42 of Surah Al-Fussilat: “Falsehood cannot reach it from any direction. It is the revelation from the All-wise, Praiseworthy One.”

Another miracle of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) that astounded the people was the Shaq al-Qamar (splitting the moon). The Prophet (PBUH) did it at the request of unbelievers. He prophet pointed his finger at the moon and it split into two. This miracle is mentioned in Verses 1-2 of Surah Al-Qamar: “The Hour of Doom is drawing near and the moon is rent asunder. Whenever they see a miracle, they turn away from it and say, ‘This is just a powerful magic.’”
